About the Artist
The paintings of Peter Jamisen
Impressionist
I was always interested in art, especially the Impressionists. Born in Flushing New York, I attended the School of Art
& Design in Manhattan, Pratt Institute and the Arts Students League.
I started working for an ad agency in Manhattan. After a few years, I decided it was time to leave and pursue my career as an artist. When Vietnam intervened my plans were put on hold.
In a
way it was meant to be, I ended up in Germany. After a short time there, I befriended a
local painter from Austria, who had the same interests as I did. For the next year or so I spent all of my free time painting in and around the Black Forest of Germany.
After my
discharge I stayed overseas, all I wanted to do was to paint. In the beginning to make ends meet I did a lot of
religious sidewalk art in pastel. From Germany to
Austria, Italy, England and France, I painted Landscapes and
Seascapes both in oil and pastel, many of which were sold to the locals and tourists
alike. It was a rewarding experience.
After returning home, I soon married and started an Ad Agency on Long Island, just east of New York City. This is where I met Robert Trivier, a painter from Rouen, France. We became great friends and my interest in painting grew even stronger.
After a 30-year career in advertising, I now devote all of my
time to painting, and love every minute of it.
